Edward is a vampire who "falls in love with a mortal and destroys both of their lives, in a romantic and loving way."
--Robert Pattinson, in a recently-released AP interview and video: here

Haahaha! Total glee. Thank you for that, Robert.

I'm currently caught in the grips of Twilight obsession, and for my daily fix I have these sites in a quick-loading Firefox bookmark folder:

http://www.twilightlexiconblog.com/
http://www.bellaandedward.com/
http://community.livejournal.com/lion_lamb/
http://twilightmomsforums.unrealblogs.com/
http://hisgoldeneyes.com/

I'm pretty sure that not much slips by me in the world of Twi-movie news. *is dork*

And my opinion? I had some concerns earlier, but everything I've seen so far just gets me more and more excited. I think (and hope and pray) that this movie is going to be wonderful.

And I ADORE Robert Pattinson as Edward. I've always had a hard time picturing Edward (one reason I tried to draw him), but when they announced Rob's casting, it was a sudden snap of "YES THAT IS IT!!"

My coppermine gallery isn't letting me upload right now, so half of these are only available on Deviantart atm. I can't figure out how to fix the gallery and it is bugging me greatly. :(

Deviantart has catagory folders now, so all my Twilight fanart can be found there easily: http://purplerebecca.deviantart.com/gallery/#Twilight

Edward Cullen Hates Me. Aug. 6th, 2007 @ 11:22 pm
Stephenie Meyer's "Eclipse", book 3 of the Twilight series, comes out today. XD
In celebration, I set my bum down and actually finished my painterly portrait of Edward I've had on my harddrive for months now.

Edward Cullen Hates Me.

From Chapter 1, 'First Sight', of the first novel, "Twilight".

1280x1024 wallpaper size available to download off deviantart.
photoshop, references from all over the internet, too many hours.

Watercolors I posted earlier but never blogged about:

I've been on a Potter high and been reading Snape fanfic again. Love. Why is it that finding a good romantic fanfiction seems to be so much easier then finding a professionally published romance novel that doesn't irritate the heck out of me?
Am I more tolerate of fanfic because I expect lots of junk before the gold? Or are romance novels really just lots of lust, bad choices, and bad writing? Where am I supposed to get my romantic fix if everything that's supposed to accomplish it is just drivel? Back to the fic I go!

Last night I got a fabulous idea for my next original comic/graphic novel project:
I'm going to take two great concepts that deserve more exploring, one pulled from fanfiction, and another from an obnoxious romance novel I read recently, and put them together into a scifi romance with no supernatural elements. Which means I'll have to actually do research into the physics behind their spacetravel, darnit. But it'll be mostly romance, and it'll be great. XD Look for it in another 10 years or so. :P

Twilight: Bella and Edward Watercolor Jun. 11th, 2007 @ 07:13 pm
Been running around all over the last week or so, and before that, dealing with some really obnoxious artist block. This piece hopefully broke it, and if I get some time, maybe I can get some other art out too.

First posted Twilight Fanart:

Bella and Edward
ink, watercolor, and bit of gauche
From Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, likely the most romantic story written in the last decade. LOVE these two. *_____*

Dipolma, PE Wallpaper Apr. 22nd, 2007 @ 07:58 pm
My diploma finally arrived on Thursday. Evidentially there was some $11 fee that I never paid, somewhere, that no one ever told me about and that didn't show up on my financial records because the school paid it, but it still stalled my diploma being sent? Anyways, I paid it a few weeks ago and it finally arrived.

I OFFICIALLY OFFICIALLY have a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University. *sharp nod*

Recent PE exchange:
Wallpaper for Topaz/Tinkerbelcky of Goddesses of Life and Death, Libia and Dauthia, from her comic Kismet.

(I worked quite hard on it, loved the concept, but I don't like the final product, which is bother-all annoying. But here it is. This painting style I tried out just didn't work, or something.)

PE exchanges Feb. 25th, 2007 @ 08:31 pm
Whoo. I managed to get everything done that I needed to this week. Work, two PE exchanges, hang out with friends, go to the temple, direct the music at stake conference...it was hectic.

I still have comments to answer, sorry peoples.

Those PE exchanges:

Western Themed Lightning Round, for Ylla. We figured out that the last time I drew Ylla for Ylla was 6 years ago for a Christmas exchange. Ah, nostalgia.

Don't Look Down!
Rd. 50 for Myre. I had fun with her characters. XD Completely psCS: sketched, inked, and colored, which is an accomplishment. ^_^

Gallery Purple-ified Jan. 24th, 2007 @ 12:33 am
OMG I finished. After spending all day and lots of yesterday on it, and after years of using a nice but canned layout, I finally made myself my own COPPERMINE GALLERY LAYOUT!!!

My gallery, finally, is my own!!!! Completely! YAAAAY!!! See, look.

Even has a top banner, and everything. Did the background tile myself. That's the first time I've done that, it was quite fun.

Art I did yesterday, which is now part of the banner:

I'll probably redo that banner sometime soon, once I've got another piece of art I'd prefer on it. Not entirely satisfied.

Happy New Year, peoples! Since, I've, like, neglected to say anything about it till now. Yah.

I never blogged about how over Christmas break, the J-Fam went to Mexico! Only about 5 blocks in, but it was Mexico! It was a glorified shopping trip, where I finally got that black cowboy hat I've been desiring for forever, and attempted haggling for the first time. And now I can say that, yes, I have been outside of the US once in my life. 5 blocks outside, over the Rio Grande by footbridge. XD

SpAway and X-23 Nov. 5th, 2006 @ 06:37 pm
I'm getting over my art block! Yay!

My computer time is limited, so all non-digital media. I have a hard time calling markers and colored pencils 'traditional' or 'natural' media, since they aren't natural at all, and not that traditional, unless we are only looking at 50 years of art history. Hehheh.

Y'all thought perhaps I had abandoned my Fanart100 goal? Nope!

Sketchiness and X-23 )

I got the day off today and I was able to go to church, so my inner balance should be much better this next week. YAY. Maybe I'll be less cranky to contractors. ;]

I bought sushi last night for the first time in ages. Today I wanted more, so I tried my hand at hand-rolled sushi this afternoon, and they tasted good! Whoohoo! Last time I tried they turned out awful, so this was a lovely triumph. They were vegetarian because I had no meat that would work (canned tuna just don't cut it).

I signed up for the Halloween PE exchange to force myself to actually finish something. I managed it!

Averil, Turu, and little Selene for Manamaraya:

Selene's Halloween

These straight 12 hour days are starting to get to me. I've made it a month. Thankfully we haven't been very busy lately, so there is plenty of downtime for me to chill and read. This introvert has to keep her center somehow.

Happy Halloween, y'all!!

New Art:
Beatrice Pretty

Beatrice from le comique. I was thinking of using it in a site design, but now I don't think I will. *glares at it*
Oh well, it's pretty! ^^ I've been picking at the coloring for like a month now, pulling it up for a bit and working on a bit, and then closing it again.

Watched "Hero" yesterday (I know, finally). Oh so gorgeous! o.o! Such an interesting story: a national myth for China, promoting solidarity. Very mythological, complete with superhuman feats and sacrifices.

I loved the soundtrack, so I just downloaded several of the tracks and am in some sort of emotional Zen listening to them. ^______^

Jelly Belly, Trademark Rant Apr. 21st, 2006 @ 11:13 pm
Clickit:

What trademark laws? *whistles innocently*

Actually, I have a bit of a rant about that:

What is with companies whose advertisers work tirelessly to get their company's names and logos engrained into the public's consciousness, but then they get all huffy about people using those names and logos in their verbal, visual, and written discussions? Those officially company-owned things are aspects of DAILY LIFE, they are a part of our lives, and we are going to use them. Conglomerates should feel honored (and fiscally secure) to have such strong presences in the public mind and culture.

It reminds me of despotic kings and dictators--who won't allow anything negative to be written about them--when companies expect to be consulted, or paid, if their names are mentioned.

I was reading a contemporary novel today, and applauded when the author talked about her characters eating Pop-Tarts and Count Chocula cereal, and didn't bother with silly and distracting little (tm) signs. Because the brands we use and the names that surround us are a part of our lives, and when we use them, we make them our own. They are ours, and not truly the property of some company, when they become a part of our anthropologic reality.

Admittedly, I'm breaking, uh, bending several trademark and copyright laws with Miss Belly here, but I'm not going to be selling prints of her, or likely drawing her again, so no harm, and more good done. If anyone has a problem with it, I suggest they get themselves a 2 lb. bag of “Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans” Jelly Bellys in "Rotten Egg". XP

I shall happily join with Texans in politely asking for a kleenex, xeroxing everything I photocopy, and calling anything carbonated a coke, no matter what brand I'm actually going to be using.

(Don't even get me started on character copyright and trademark issues. As an artist, that is so loaded. Superman, Harry Potter, Mr. Spock...they truly have become archetypes of our cultural superconscious, I don't care what companies "own" them.)
/end rant

Private Exchange Apr. 4th, 2006 @ 08:59 pm
After a bit of poking around and begging, I've been able to join the Private Exchange, which is a private group of artists that do exchanges and art challenges. Way fun. XD

It's run by Brianne, and most of the members can be found listed here.
Caeline/Fantazia was lovely and graciously sponsored me. :)

I've done two pieces for the exchange now, so take a look:

Vash Art Feb. 10th, 2006 @ 02:20 pm
I realize that for most people, Trigun is SO 5 years ago. Well, TOO BAD!! X]

I *heart* Vash. Vash is wonderful. Have some Vash:

Vash the STAMPEDE )

Did y'all know the manga was still going in Japan? I did not know this. The manga must be read, mwahha.

Everything else I've been painting lately is just frustrating me. *stabs at photoshop* OpenCanvas is great because it forces me to be loose. But then I have to find the balance between loose and Every!Detail!Tight!, and it can just get frustrating. Fanart is great because I can shrug and say "It's just fanart" and leave it. But when it's something original, I have a tendency to work it forever and then stare at it until I can't stand it anymore and it never gets done. Bllleeaegh... Anyone else having this problem lately?

Anyways. My loan has been gotten, now I just have to find a decent car to buy. On the lookout.
