Birthday! Goals and Accomplishments
I'm 27 today! Gulp.
Happy Birthday to me!

Since I didn't post one on the new year:

Accomplishments of my 26th year:
-- Graduated from College! Got my BA in Visual Arts from Brigham Young University, with a Minor in Music. (Course, I still haven't received my diploma. I need to start bugging people.)

-- Worked a job all year that required getting up at 4:13am, a 20-40 min commute to and from in Houston traffic, and a 6 week block of 12 hours a day, 7 days a week overtime.

-- Purchased (at end of 25) and paid off a car.

-- Purchased my first me-only-mine computer.

-- Stepped foot out of the United States. It was only 5 blocks into Mexico, but, hey! it was outside the US!

-- Got my first art related and real job designing advertisements for the local paper. Yay!

-- Started off strong on a fancomic that will be skill enhancing and a whole lot of fun.

My nonaccomplishments were gaining weight, a several-month-long art block and minor depression, missing most of the anime cons I wanted to work at, and reading a whole heckalot of fanfiction and novels (fun, if not always healthy).

Goals for my 27th:

-- Work my graphic design job and get (really) good at it.

-- Lose weight and exercise. (the Ever-goal)

-- Continue fancomic, get good at it and FASTER. Start on my Purple comic again.

-- Begin my journey in learning to PAINT. To really paint. Digitally, or whatever, I aspire to be able to paint like the masters. It's gonna take a lot of work.

-- Develop my voice more, put together and actually perform the Recital my friend Junebug and I have been planning for several months now. (I = soprano, she = alto, it will rock.)

-- I'd like to get into a serious relationship with a guy. A man. Really. I've never done that before, and I have always wanted to. :P Yes, internets, I have never even been kissed.
(I've held a guy's hand! But I was only humoring him on a date, and I wasn't really interested. geh.)

_____________

Reccommend something shoujo to me, please! I have a great desire to watch something cute, pretty, girly, and romantic, most likely aimed at the 11 to 15 crowd. Magical girl very welcome.
I've already watched PGSM, Fancy Lala, Yes!Pretty Cure 5, Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Petite Princess Yucie, Venus verses Virus, and of course, Princess Tutu recently enough, and I'm sure there are others I've forgotten. Anything else running out there?

Happy Birthday! Being 27 is great. (I miss it!)

Let's see. Young shoujo. What about Ah! My Goddess, Ai Yori Aoshi, and Love Hina? Maybe Azumanga Daioh? Someday's Dreamers? Hmmm, would Negima maybe hit the spot? Ah! I've got it! Escaflowne!

If you don't mind shoujo for an older audience, Fushigi Yuugi is the penultimate shoujo (in my mind). Ooh! And what about La Corda d'Oro? (Very nice, but only the first 10 episodes have been subbed).

*shrug* Maybe Kogarashi has some other ideas?

Happy birthday, Rebecca!

The only one I can think of is Fushigi Yuugi, that hasn't been mentioned yet. Shadrach Anki's the one to ask about shoujo.

Thanks!

Wah, I only got 3 episodes into Fushigi Y. The lead girls drove me NUTS.

Thanks!

I generally avoid the harem animes because fanservice drives me nuts and so do the waffley male leads. But Negima does look adorable....

Why haven't I watched Escaflowne yet? *netflix queues it*

La Corda looks AWEsome. Must check out. Thanks so much for the reccs! ^^

Happy Birthday! (I'm almost 2 months older than you...)

I would read Negima first as the anime has some odd things. (They did a season, yanked it and re-did and various bits and pieces of commentary, but otherwise Negima is love!)

Yanking a season is odd. Huh.

I didn't mean for the last bit of my comment to be gibberish-I meant to type they did a season, had disappointing reviews, re-did the season with a different studio, but I've read various comments from around the web and it was closer to the manga's storyline, but some things were still off.

I was in a rush and forgot to expand on my comment (wanted to check my memory since it was last year I read the comments) before I clicked post.

:)

But I adore Negima but I won't touch the anime.

Oh wow, you've accomplished so much this year! Happy Birthday as well!! :D

As for recs, may I recommend La Corda d'Oro? XD;; I'm highly addicted to the series at the moment. It's not exactly magical girl, but there are fairies! And music! And magical violins! And tons of romantic moments. You can find more info about it here.

Also, I think Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch fits your description pretty well of shoujo, cute, pretty, girly, and romantic. It's all about singing!girls-turned-mermaids out there to destroy evil with their voice. XD;;

What else...Mirumo de Pon! is very cute too...but sadly only a few episodes have been subbed.

I also adore Daa! Daa! Daa!.

Hee, I've watched most of those you've mentioned. I quite adored Petite Princess Yucie and Princess Tutu. :D

Thanks thanks!

La Corda looks snazzy. Must check out.

Those others look ADorable. I love the concept for Mermaid Melody, but when I tried it a few years ago, the singing wasn't very good. >.< I may have to try it again, though.

Thanks so much for the reccs! ^_^

Must it be anime? (I'm more enamored of manga lately.) Happiness is very cute. You'd probably like that. Hmmmmm. I really enjoy Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge and Ouran High School Host Club, of course. .... Girly...... You might like Love Get Chu, and I'd certainly highly recommend Gakuen Alice (although the manga is better) and Saiunkoku Monogatari (eeeeeeeee, Ryuuki love! ♥♥♥) That's my short list. Actually, a lot of the anime I watch isn't very girly, but nearly all the manga I read is. ^^;;;

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY from your evil twin. ;P

Oh, recc manga too! I love manga. ^^ I just have a harder time finding scanlations then I have finding fansubs.

I've been watching Saiunkoku, so fabulous! (and occasionally quite odd, at least for this western girl, to see a wholesome, clean show where the male lead decides he's bi, rather then gay, and the female lead has been doing the books for a brothel for years, but still manages to be uptight about things. Makes me go "Huh?") XD

Everybody's reccing Ouran! And it looks cute! Will watch.

Thanks for all the reccs, I'll totally have to check them out.

Oh, so many happy birthdays, evil twin!!

I hope you find a great guy to kiss! Not that I've ever kissed one myself, but if it's anything like kissing girls, it's real nice ;) How about posting some of your goals on my new website - www.goalposting.net? That would be great...

I don't have any shoujo recs that haven't been mentioned above other than some that my friend [info]watsuki0loveduc recommended last time at church (Penguin...something, it's a manga and apparently very cute) but if you want something a little more contemplative, I'm all over recommending Mushishi. It's a little like Spirited Away and Jacques Cousteau. Very random and REALLY interesting.

We're not sure what's been fansubbed and what hasn't, but we can also recommend Koi Suru Tenshi Angelique and Happy Seven. We've been watching Fushigi Boshi no Futago Hime and Kirarin Revolution, too, but they don't seem to be floating around fansub world.

I haven't seen Pretear mentioned yet. One girl, seven knights, and a world to save... complete in 13 episodes, available in English. Three words: "Prete with me?"

Also, I don't think I noticed DNAngel in the lists... that's complete in 26 episodes... also available in English. A boy discovers the family secret... a winged master theif... and twin sisters. Dark is verrah sexy.

Oh... and never assume... Surely you've met Fruits Basket? No? RUN! BUY! LOVE! ::swoons::

Happy birthday! Wow, I'm so clueless...I should have saved Haku for your B-day! Oh well, next year I promise to make you something special with no strings attached. :-)

I think it's a great idea to write your goals down. I do it all the time and it really works. None of that "The Secret" nonsense about wishing yourself to success...it's just about knowing where you want to go so you can find your way there.

I wish we lived closer to each other because I could help you with the "painting" goal. I'm a bit of a watercolorist in the classic English tradition (my icon is one of my paintings) and I could show you some tricks. Ask me any time if you have questions; I'm sure I could give you some tips that'd be helpful.

Re: Shoujo Manga...you MUST try "Fruits Basket" (warning: it goes ON and ON). It's adorable and really captivating. I also read "Tramps Like Us"...mostly for the really interesting artwork (CUTE pouty lips). And "Alice 19", which is my FAVORITE shoujo manga ever. It's short and sweet, not too long, and a great story. As a bonus, it's a complete story so there's no eternal cliffhanger (like with the other two).

As a matter of fact...don't look for Alice just yet. I'm going to be at I-Con this weekend & I might be able to find the box for you. Call it a birthday present. :-)

Hope your day is special & full of fun! *smooch*

Wah, no, Haku was a great present! ^^

Thank you! I'm going to be working mostly on oil-type painting (though digitally).

We should totally meet up some time at a con or something! You ever head in a Texas direction?

Fruits Basket is one I forgot to mention, probably because it's on my list of Obvious Essentials. I LOVE Fruits Basket. ^^
I totally want to read Tramps Like Us. I started watching the liveaction cause it looks adorable, but I haven't finished yet.
Waaah! You don't have to get me anything! (obviously, this comment is late..) I hope you had fun at I-con! ^^

A belated happy birthday!

I was going to suggest Somedays Dreamers, but it looks like yedijoda beat me to naming that one. Still, Somedays Dreamers is so sweet, it is hard for even my sister and my wife to watch without giggling & gagging at the dub dialog.

For a manga, I might suggest "Imadoki!". A girl from rural Hokkaido goes to a high-tech high school in Tokyo. There is one of crazy/weirdo character, bt the rest are believable-ish. :-)

The only other shoujo anime I've seen that you maybe haven't is "Kaleido Star"--but it's not really much of a romance: it's more about overcoming obstacles.
